Dr Murad Blackhead Duo

Clogged pores are a problem that affect most of us yet despite hundreds of products on the market they’re still considered a major pet skin peeve.

If fact, Murad recently conducted a study which revealed women aged 30-45 years named this issue as one of their top three skin concerns.

Although irritating for many, pores actually serve a necessary purpose… they link oil glands to the surface of the skin, allowing sebum, our skin’s natural oil, to hydrate and protect. So we shouldn’t despise them too much!

The problem occurs due to a build-up of oil and dead skin cells through poor skin care. Excessive clogged pores lead to blackheads (and whiteheads).

A common mis-held belief is that the dark dots we see on our noses and cheeks is dirt. It isn’t. It’s the result of oxidation, a chemical reaction involving oxygen and sebum. So no amount of scrubbing will remove them!

This build up can also weaken pore structure, stretching them and making pores appear larger than normal. Which brings me on to pore size… another key concern for many of us! (Made worse by aging and sun damage.)

So the best way to look after our pores and reduce blackheads is to avoid any build up from forming through regular exfoliation and deep cleansing.

A product we’re obsessing over just now is the new Murad Blackhead & Pore Clearing Duo. It’s only available in the UK at Zen Lifestyle in June, before it’s national launch in July, and we’ve been loving the results.

It’s a fast-acting, two-step treatment that extracts stubborn debris from deep within the pores and provides lasting protection against impurities. With an average 58% reduction in the formation of blackheads it’s already become one of our new favourites!

Available at all salons for just £50 from June.
