Let me talk you through what you should expect.
Prior to your treatments you will be booked in for an in-depth consultation and patch test. Your highly trained therapist will spend time with you to explain the ins and outs of the treatment, including dos and don’ts, so you feel completely at ease.
The treatment itself is very straight forward, but first the science… IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Light, controlled pulses of light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by melanin in the hair contained in the follicle. The melanin converts the light energy into heat destroying the hair follicle making it unable to produce a new hair. The treatment is only effective on growing hairs as these are still attached to the follicle. Hair in the resting stage are treated later which is why a course of sessions are required.
So, back to the treatment, the hair will be shaved from the area before a protective gel is applied. From there the IPL applicator head is used to give short bursts of light onto the skin and into the follicles. This step is repeated across the area being treated. You may feel a bit of a tingle (similar to a ping of an elastic band) but it doesn’t last and the results more than make up for it.
Between treatments (a minimum of 4 weeks) you can shave the hair but for the treatment to be successful you shouldn’t wax, pluck or use hair removal creams.
There are various brands of IPL machines on the market and we regularly research new models to investigate their effectiveness but we’ve never been swayed away from Ellipse. We’ve been offering the treatment for over 13 years and in that time have treated hundreds of happy customers.
So, are you ready to say goodbye to unwanted hair?
