Small guide to a naturally free pick me-up, provided by Mother Nature

The summer is here, and it’s now that you will feel the effects of the sluggish winter just past. Here at Zen Lifestyle we believe that how you take care of yourself internally is more important than externally. For best results with all our treatments at Zen, and to feel your best, we recommend a few healthy steps in your daily routine to ensure a good balanced lifestyle. This week we are recommending the importance of water in your lifestyle. Water makes up, on average, 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water and every day you lose water.  If you do not have enough water in your body each day, you will find the effects of dehydration, dry mouth, headaches, fatigue and grogginess. In this summer climate you will be perspiring more and losing more water so it’s important to replace that lost water. Each day you should try drinking 8-10 glasses of water.

Try some of these 5 steps to incorporate water into your daily lifestyle for the next month and you will feel the benefits!

Step 1: Put away the coffee and breakfast tea and start your day off with a glass of hot water with honey and fresh lemon. Research shows that hot water improves blood circulation. The honey will give you a unique energy lift and a boost to your immune system. The lemon paves your stomach for the day and is great for relieving and preparing the digestion system.

Step 2: Before lunch try some natural herbal teas with hot water. Here in Zen Lifestyle we stock a selection of branded tea called, “Teapigs” which is 100% natural. One of Zen Lifestyles favourite tea is the “Peppermint leaves” tea.  Mint is well known for its ability to sooth the digestive tract, and reduces the severity and length of stomach aches. Mint goes further than peppermint tea we just drink today. Research shows that people consumed tea 5,000 years ago. Tea originated from India and China. The Chinese use Green tea with mint leaves as a natural medicine with the benefits of helping headaches and detoxification.

Step 3: After you eat your lunch try drinking lukewarm water, this will help you digest your food better.

Step 4:In the evening time or on a summer’s afternoon, try making a water fruit cocktail! The markets are full of juicy fresh fruit selection these days. In a large jug, chop and dice a combination of your favourite fruit and drink! A recommended refreshing fruit water drink here at Zen lifestyle is  sliced watermelon, cucumber, strawberries, lemon, kiwi’s and fresh mint. This can look great at your dinner table and is full of goodness.  Fruit is full of vitamins, minerals, flavour’s, and is a water-soluble antioxidant. Fruit is great for boosting your immune system, your digestive system, your skin, hair, heart and an overall balanced diet. You could also make a refreshing and healthy iced tea with the super fruit Teapigs we stock at Zen.

Step 5: In the evening before bed time try drinking camomile tea. Chamomile tea has been consumed for hundreds of years. Chamomile tea is made by assembling German chamomile which is a member of the sunflower family, in hot water. Chamomile is helpful before sleep as sooths the stomach. It is also very helpful for people that suffer from the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and assists in overall digestion.
